NATIONAL: 08 February 2026 – Carletonville: SAPS National Intervention Unit conducted an intelligence-driven operation targeting illegal miners suspected of holding unlicensed firearms. The suspects attempted to flee and opened fire on police. A prolonged two-hour gun battle ensued. Two suspects were killed, and police seized two AK47s, two pistols, and ammunition. Suspects identified as Basotho nationals, assessed as extremely dangerous.
WESTERN CAPE: 07 February 2026 – Two suspects (35, 36) arrested for Simonstown cellphone business robbery. Vehicle booked at Bellville South SAPS, where another suspect (34) was caught stealing car parts. Later, patrols on the N2 near Macassar led to arrest of a suspect with ammunition (.38 Special, AK47 round).
WESTERN CAPE: Anti-Economic Task Team arrested arrests suspect for extortion in Gugulethu 02 February 2026 – A 24-year-old suspect arrested for extortion, possession of drugs, and ammunition. Confiscated: 200 mandrax tablets, 65 rounds of 9mm ammo, 13 rifle rounds, and cash. Suspect detained at Gugulethu SAPS, to appear in Athlone Magistrate’s Court.
GAUTENG: 08 February 2026 – Bekkersdal, West Rand: Police intercepted a maroon Toyota Corolla, recovering three AK47 rifles and ammunition. Three suspects arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
GAUTENG: 04 February 2025- Four suspects arrested in connection with the Cash -In-Transit robbery at Mohlakeng, West Rand. Two vehicles- Mercedes Benz and Toyota C-HR, two rifles, two magazines and ammunition were seized.
LIMPOPO: 03 February 2026 – Polokwane: Three male suspects arrested in connection with an October 2025 armed robbery near Hlovani River Lodge, Ritavi policing area. Victim was robbed of a firearm, cellphones, and cash. On 02 February 2026, Mopani Tracking Team and Ritavi Detectives arrested the suspects in Namakgale policing area, Matiko-Xikaya Village. Recovered: a 9mm Glock pistol with 11 rounds, a 9mm replica firearm, and a white Suzuki Ertiga believed to have been used in the crime. The Glock pistol is linked to the robbery case.
LIMPOPO: 04 February 2026 – Polokwane: Sekhukhune District Tracking and Investigation Team arrested a 49-year-old security company owner after nine firearms, including three rifles, were found in a safe at his residence in Slovo Section, Dennilton.
