POLICE LAUNCH MANHUNT FOR SUSPECT LINKED TO SESHEGO MURDER AND MOOKGOPHONG ATTEMPTED MURDER

POLOKWANE – The police in Limpopo have launched a manhunt for a suspect who severely assaulted a woman in Mookgophong and later strangled his partner in a separate incident in Seshego on Monday, 26 January 2026.

Police were responding to a report of an inquest at a residence in Zone 3, Seshego, during the early hours of Monday when they discovered the lifeless body of a 26-year-old woman inside her rented room.

The deceased was originally from Mookgophong, and was a student at a local TVET College.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was allegedly strangled by her partner, who fled the scene after the incident.

Further investigations revealed that the same suspect is also wanted in connection with an attempted murder case reported in Mookgophong, where he allegedly severely assaulted another female victim with a sharp object. It is alleged that after committing the assault, the suspect proceeded to Seshego, where he allegedly strangled his partner.

The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage; however, domestic violence cannot be ruled out. Police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has condemned the ongoing brutal incidents of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) and urged communities to assist police by providing information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect.
