Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, the attempted murder-accused tenderpreneur, has revealed that he employs eight special forces members and one task force operative for his personal protection, at a monthly cost of R2 million. Testifying before the Ad Hoc Committee, Matlala disclosed that these highly trained operatives, earning R100,000 each, make up most of his 14-member protection team.

Julius Malema questioned the composition of the team, describing it as “paramilitary” and suggesting it’s unusual for VIP protection. Matlala defended his security arrangements, stating that the costs are covered by multiple business entities.

Malema also raised concerns about the financial sustainability of Matlala’s security company, given the substantial monthly outlay. Matlala responded that the committee misunderstood his business structure, confirming he draws resources from various companies to maintain his security operations
