Two Police Officers Killed in Roodepoort, Suspect Escapes
Tragedy struck in Roodepoort, Gauteng, when two police officers were fatally shot while transporting a suspect, Jabulani Moyo, back to prison after his court appearance. Moyo, who was facing charges for a business robbery case dating back to February 2023, managed to escape during the ambush.
The incident occurred on Friday, August 8, 2025, at around 10:30 am on Albertina Sisulu Road in Roodepoort. The officers, a sergeant and a warrant officer, were disarmed and shot, with the sergeant declared dead at the scene and the warrant officer dying later at the hospital.
Investigation and Manhunt
A massive manhunt has been launched to apprehend Moyo, who was seen driving the police vehicle before abandoning it a few kilometers from the crime scene. The police have offered a R150,000 reward for information leading to Moyo’s capture, warning that he is considered dangerous and should not be approached.
National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has condemned the killings, stating that it’s an attack on the state and the rule of law. “We will not rest until we find him,” he emphasized, urging anyone with information to come forward.
