FRAUDSTER SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS IMPRISONMENT

LIMPOPO: Jele Silas Maluleke (45) appeared in Polokwane Specialised Commercial Crimes Court
where he pleaded for fraud charge and sentenced to eight (8) years of direct imprisonment on 29 July 2025.

On 01 September 2016, an individual person requested the accused to apply for motor vehicle financing on his behalf.

The two visited vehicle dealership where they produced fraudulent payslip and bank statements, which were submitted as supporting documents for the application.

The application was processed as a result, a finance for VW Polo Vivo valued at over two hundred and twenty-two thousand was approved.

The accused failed to make payments. As a result, the bank conducted internal investigations and detected fraud.

The case docked was opened and transferred to the Polokwane based Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation (SCCI) for further probe.

The SCCI conducted the investigations and handed the docked to the National Prosecuting Authority for decision. As a result, the NPA issued the warrants (warning) for the suspects to appear in court.

Both accused make several court appearances until Maluleke pleaded guilty and sentenced.

The Provincial Head of the Hawks in Limpopo Province Major General (Adv) Gopz Govender is concerned about the number of fraud cases relating to purchasing of the motor vehicles. He urged the vehicle dealership owner to conduct an audit prior to releasing or handing over vehicles to the buyer.
