TWO SUSPECTS FATALLY WOUNDED IN A SHOOTOUT WITH HAWKS

JOHANNESBURG: Two suspects were fatally wounded in a shootout with the Hawks’ Tactical Operations Management Section (TOMS) this afternoon in Brackendowns south of Johannesburg.

Information was received by the multi-disciplinary team comprising of TOMS, SAPS’s Crime Intelligence, Gauteng Tactical Response Team, Anti Gang unit, DPC Tracking team 2, Public Emergency Services, Gauteng Traffic’s Airwing, CAP Specialised Operations and Tracker Connect operationalised the intelligence. The identified suspect vehicle made its way toward the R59 and upon realisation that the multi-disciplinary team is tactically approaching, the suspects fired at police. A shootout ensued when police returned fire, fatally wounding the two suspects in the vehicle which was affixed with false registration plates. The suspects’ vehicle continued to flee but they drove into a ditch. Police recovered two unlicensed firearms, a rifle and a handgun, ammunition for both firearms, cellphones and gloves.

Investigation is underway to ascertain if the suspects were involved in other aggravating robberies in and around Johannesburg.
