LIMPOPO POLICE ARREST ELEVEN TRAFFIC OFFICERS FOR ALLEDGED INVOLVEMENT IN CORRUPTION RELATED ACTIVITIES

POLOKWANE: The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the Provincial Organised Crime unit, led by Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Major General Samuel Manala for arresting eleven (11) traffic officers for their alleged involvement in corrupt activities.

The team worked closely with the Road Traffic Management Corporation Anti-Corruption Unit (NTACU) following up on the allegations that the officers have been soliciting bribes from motorists travelling on the N1 highway across the province.

The arrests are a result of the ongoing investigations that revealed that Traffic officials operating along the N1 freeway and those inside towns and villages abandon their duties and drive to the N1 to carry out corrupt activities.

“Corruption derails the good intention of the existence of the rule of law and order, thus a setback towards the creation safer communities. Any form of corruption including receiving monetary rewards in return of any favour will not be tolerated,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe. She further encouraged communities to report all elements of corruption to the police without any hesitation.

The suspects will appear in Polokwane Magistrate’s court soon facing charges relating to defeating the ends of justice, extortion, and soliciting bribes amongst others. More arrests are expected as the investigation unfolds.
