A 29-YEAR-OLD MAN ARRESTED FOR STATUTORY RAPE AT TAFELKOP NYAKELANG VILLAGE REMANDED IN POLICE CUSTODY
POLOKWANE: A 29-year-old foreign national male arrested for statutory rape at Tafelkop, Nyakelang village on Sunday, 01 September 2024 has appeared before Motetema Magistrate court on Tuesday 03 September 2024.
The suspect who cannot be named to protect the victim was remanded in police custody and his case was postponed to next week Tuesday 10 September 2024 for bail application and further police investigations.
According to the report, the victim, a 15-year-old girl was staying with her brothers when she met the suspect, and the two fell in love.
She then moved in with the suspect to his rented room.
While at the rented room, the duo had an argument and the landlord heard them fighting, and he called the police.
When the police arrived at the rented room, they discovered that the victim, a minor who had been staying with the suspect, was assaulted and was found to be pregnant.
A statutory rape case was opened and the suspect was immediately arrested.
Police investigations are ongoing.
