TWO MALE SUSPECTS NABBED FOR ALLEGED SPATE OF ROBBERIES IN SEKHUKHUNE DISTRICT

POLOKWANE: Two male suspects aged 26 and 33 were nabbed for possession of an unlicensed firearm and armed robbery by the members of Burgersfort together with Jane Furse and Nebo Tracking Team during an intelligence driven operation that was conducted in Sekhukhune District on Monday 17 June 2024.

The duo were arrested following a spate of armed robberies with a firearm committed earlier during the month of June this year in Jane Furse and Nebo policing areas.

The two suspects were reportedly traveling in a white VW Polo Vivo motor vehicle that was utilized to commit the offenses. It is alleged that a 33 year-old male suspect is also an employee at a mine working as a plant operator in Witbank, Mpumalanga province.

It is reported that on Sunday 16 June 2024 at about 22:05, the duo pointed at two female victims with a firearm and robbed them of the cellphones and undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene driving a Polo motor vehicle in Jane Furse policing area.

During the arrest, the two suspects were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm with a pepper spray, cellphones, and bank cards that were positively identified by the victims.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Nebo magistrate court on Wednesday, 19 June 2024, on charges of robbery with a firearm and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Police investigations are continuing.
