Shebeshxt on the mend following multiple surgeries
POLOKWANE – Musician Lehlogonolono “Shebeshxt” Chauke underwent multiple surgeries this week and has started communicating again.
Shebeshxt survived a fatal car accident at Smelters mine on the R37 on Saturday night, which claimed the life of Onthatile, his nine-year-old daughter.
It has been reported that the rapper’s Volkswagen Polo overturned after colliding with the truck.
The tragic accident marked the rapper’s second in less than six months. At the beginning of the year, Shebe was involved in a crash which saw his white Volkswagen Polo GTI written off.
Following news of the accident, Shebe’s history of allegedly driving recklessly while not wearing a seatbelt, along with an incident where he reportedly pulled out a gun from his backpack and flashed it during a performance, has been brought up.
“This is not the right time for people to point fingers. Let us support the family without blaming him,” Limpopo Artists Movement chairperson Mphoza Mashabela said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Shebe and his family during this difficult time. We cannot imagine the pain and grief they must be experiencing, but we want them to know that they are not alone.”
The family of Limpopo’s Shebeshxt is grateful to EFF leader Julius Malema for his swift intervention when they called on him for assistance after the rapper was involved in an accident which left him with several injuries and claimed the life of his nine-year-old daughter, Onthatile.
Per family spokesperson Lot Ramusi, Malema organised for Shebe, as he is fondly referred to, to be transported to a private hospital and footed the bill for his medical expenses.
“I personally called Julius Malema on Saturday, at midnight, after getting calls from Shebeshxt’s friend, Naqua, informing me that the government hospital is unable to accommodate him,” Ramusi explained to News24.
Shebe’s accident happened Saturday evening when his charcoal Volkswagen Polo collided with a heavy motor vehicle and overturned. He sustained a broken leg, fractures to his rib cage and injuries to his body and head, while his fiancé, who was the third occupant in the vehicle, escaped with bruises to her face, specifically around the mouth and eyes.
Lot Ramusi, who is the spokesperson for the rapper’s family, tells the publication that Chauke has started communicating again.
“We just keep on praying. He is coming, alright. He is going through different operations. At least he has started talking again. He started talking properly again on Monday,” said Ramusi.
This comes after Shebeshxt’s mother revealed that her son suffered a broken leg, abdominal injuries, and head injuries.
Ramusi adds that the family hasn’t decided if there will be a public burial for his daughter, Onthatile Chuene.
“The family is aware that the country has been supporting them and that the people want to come to the funeral. But this will be determined by the family”.
NORTHERN ACADEMY PAYS TRIBUTE TO ONTHATILE
Shebeshxt’s daughter’s school, Northern Academy paid tribute to her this week following her untimely passing on Saturday, 8 June.
The school revealed in a statement that they are reeling in shock and sadness following the tragic passing of the Grade 3 learner, Onthatile Chuene.
The school has extended its heartfelt condolences to the families and describes Onthatile’s passing as a profound loss.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Onthatile Chuene, a cherished Grade 3 learner at our school. Onthatile passed away on 8 June 2024, and our entire Northern Academy family is deeply affected by this loss.”
“During her time at Northern Academy, Onthatile was an exemplary learner who always showed great enthusiasm and dedication to her studies. Her bright smile and kind heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her.”
