POLICE INVESTIGATE A CASE OF ROBBERY WITH A FIREARM AND CARJACKING INCIDENT AT TZANEEN CROSSING MALL

POLOKWANE: Tzaneen police are investigating a case of robbery with a firearm and carjacking at Tzaneen Crossing Mall on Friday 31 May 2024 at about 19:00.

According to the report, the victim was at Tzaneen Crossing Mall with his wife inside their parked motor vehicle, a Chevrolet Sonic white in colour.

They were approached by two unknown African males who informed the driver that he was under arrest and directed him to sit in the back seat. The suspect who was armed with firearm informed him that they are on the way to the police station..

The second suspect got in the driver’s seat, drove along R36 road, arrived at Bindzulani Cross Nkowankowa, and stopped at the car wash.
The victim was then instructed to transfer money , but he refused.The victim tried to signal to his wife to get out of the vehicle.
 
The suspects drove with the victims to Mokgoloboto village, near the graveyard. The victim noticed that another vehicle was following them and grabbed the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to lose control, and the driver had to suddenly stop the vehicle. The male victim then instructed his wife to get away.
The suspects assaulted the victims and further, took their motor vehicle, and left them stranded.

Before fleeing, they took his bag, and inside the bag were cash,the victim’s wife’s passport, his identity book, and two cellphones.

Police were notified about the incident and opened a case of robbery with a firearm and carjacking.

Police are appealing to anyone with information that can assist with the arrest of the suspects to contact Sergeant Gift Machete on 083 542 0788, crime stop number 08600 10111, the nearest police station, or share information on MySAPSApp.

Police investigations are still ongoing.
