20 YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT FOR KIDNAPPING AND RAPE ACCUSED

POLOKWANE: The Mankweng Regional Court convicted and sentenced Tebogo Mangena (29) on kidnapping and Attempted rape charges on Wednesday, 22 May 2024.

The court noted that on Sunday, 23 October 2022, at about 20:20, the victim was at home when she received a call from the s
accused requesting her to accompany him. The victim went out and accompanied him; along the way, the accused produced a knife and threatened her. He then grabbed her by the neck and ordered the victim to undress herself while he was undressing himself. The accused pushed the victim on the ground, and she overpowered him and screamed for help, and the accused fled the scene.

The victim was saved by her parents.

The incident was reported to the police, kidnapping and attempted rape cases were opened and transferred to Polokwane FCS.

Sergeant Paul Kgabo Fisha was assigned to investigate the case, whose thorough investigative work resulted in the accused being found guilty of kidnapping and attempting to rape and given 20 years’ imprisonment sentence.
 
The accused was arrested on Monday 31 October, 2022, and was granted bail. He was attending trials until he was found guilty in March 2024 and remanded in custody until he was convicted and sentenced on Wednesday 22 May 2024.

The accused was sentenced as follows:

Count 01: Kidnapping = five (5) years’ imprisonment Count 02: Attempted Rape = Fifteen (15) years’ imprisonment.

Count 01 will run concurrently with Count 02.
 
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has expressed gratitude to the prosecutorial and investigative teams for the
sentence.
