THE MEN ACCUSED OF KILLING KAIZER CHIEFS PLAYER DENIED BAIL

The Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court denied bail to the six men facing charges related to the murder of Kaizer Chiefs Football Club’s player,Luke Fleurs.

NdumisoMoswane(26),Fernando Sive (25) ,Nhlakanipho Dlamini(21), Franky Xaba (25), Maredi Mphahlele (36), Thembinkosi Hlomikhawu (31) were all remanded in custody until 27 June as the case was postponed for further investigations. They were arrested in Slovoville on 10 April 2024 when members of Provincial Investigating Unit of the South African Police Service followed information about the whereabouts of Fleurs’ vehicle that was hijacked in Honeydew on 03 April 2024. They are charged with murder,robbery with aggravating circumstances,possession of firearms,possession of ammunition and defeating the ends of justice

Fleurs was at a filling station with three of his friends,when he was allegedly approached by two males armed with firearms that had alighted from a BMW,while his friends were inside the shop at the filling station.They removed Fleur and another occupant from his vehicle and immediately occupied the vehicle.As they were driving off, Fleur tried to grab the door and one of the alleged hijackers then fired at him.

The denial of bail signals our commitment as the NPA to holding the alleged perpetrators of violent crimes accountable. Our priority is to protect our community and ensure that justice is served.Releasing them on bail could have posed a significant threat to our witnesses.The decision by the court was rendered based on the severity of the charges and potential risk to public safety.
