POLICE ARREST OVER 600 SUSPECTS DURING HIGH DENSITY OPERATION SHANELA “KUKULA”

POLOKWANE In a concerted effort to combat crime and ensure public safety, the South African Police Service in Limpopo has arrested 631 suspects and recovered 02 firearms and 13 live ammunition during weekly high-density Operation Shanela ” Kukula” across the province.

The operation, which was carried out from 2024-05-06 until 2024-05-12, in collaboration with various law enforcement agencies, targeted crime hotspots areas and individuals involved in criminal activities.

The suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder, robbery, assault, carjacking, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of suspected stolen property, illicit cigarettes and drugs, rape to possession of precious metals.

In addition to the arrests, law enforcement officers also seized firearms and several ammunition believed to be linked to criminal activities in some parts of the province.
Police also confiscated 02 stolen motor vehicles, 1122 counterfeit goods, 126 liters of alcohol and various type of drugs.

The provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe is delighted about the successes achieved.

“The recovery of these firearms underscores the importance of proactive policing measures in preventing violent crimes and protecting the community from harm,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.

In conclusion, the General highlighted that the success achieved during these Operations serve as a clear message to criminals that their unlawful activities will not be tolerated, and the police officers will continue to pursue them with unwavering determination.

Some of the suspects have already appeared before the respective Magistrate’s Courts across the province.
