A RAPE ACCUSED AGED 35 SENTENCED TO TWENTY YEARS IMPRISONMENT

POLOKWANE: The Provincial Commissioner of South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the 20 years imprisonment sentence handed to a 35-year-old accused, Aubrey Maleka, for a rape case, by Groblersdal Regional Court on Wednesday, 08 May 2024.

The accused’s sentencing came after he raped a 30-year-old woman, at Vezinyao village in Dennilton policing area, on Sunday, 27 March 2022 at about 20h30.

The court heard that the
victim was coming from a local tavern at Mpheleng village going to visit her boyfriend. The victim met the accused who was also going to the same village. They walked together, the issue arose when the victim mentioned that she was on her way to visit her boyfriend. The accused got furious and assaulted her, thereafter dragged her into the nearby bushes and raped her.

The incident was reported to the police and the suspect was traced and arrested for rape.

The case was allocated to Detective Sergeant Johanna Letladi attached at Groblersdal, Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit for further investigation.

Subsequent to thorough investigations the accused was found guilty of all charges against him and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for rape and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).

“We applaud the sterling work by the investigating officer and other role players for the job well done,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
