SENIOR POLICE OFFICER SINGLE-HANDENDLY CATCHES SUSPECT STEALING A MOTOR VEHICLE

POLOKWANE : In a remarkable display of bravery and quick action, a senior officer of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo successfully apprehended a male suspect during theft of motor vehicle incident that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, 28 February 2024 at about 02h00.

The incident occurred at Flora Park, Polokwane, where the vigilant officer, attached to the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit(VCIU), responded to a complaint about a suspect stealing a vehicle.

Upon arrival, he caught the suspect red-handed inside the motor vehicle trying to start it. He also noticed that the motor vehicle was moved where it was parked.

The seasoned officer, who is holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, immediately sprang into action. Without waiting for backup, the officer confronted the suspect, utilizing his advanced training and quick reflexes to prevent the theft. The confrontation led to the successful arrest of the suspect, who is now in custody and facing charge of theft of a motor vehicle.

Thorough investigation indicated that some parts of the vehicle were damaged and removed.

The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised the officer for his dedication and courage.

” The officer’s actions not only prevented a crime from taking place but also sent a strong message to criminals that the SAPS is always vigilant and ready to act,” added Lieutenant General Hadebe

The 31-year-old suspect will appear before Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 29 February 2024.
