A MALE ACCUSED AGED 54 SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS IN JAIL FOR RAPPING A MINOR CHILD IN 2021
POLOKWANE: A 54-year-old male accused was sentenced by Seshego Regional Court for a rape of a minor child on Tuesday, 20 February 2024.
During court proceedings against the accused who was a goat shepherd at the victim’s homestead, it was found that the accused, (54) who cannot be named to protect the identity of victim , invited the victim to accompany him to look after the goats at the bushes. She went with him, and whilst there, the old man started to touch the minor child, undressed her, and raped her. Thereafter, he gave her money to buy goodies and give it to her grandmother.
Her grandmother asked her about the goodies, and she told her about the rape incident at the bushes. A case against the accused was opened. It was transferred to Seshego Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit (FCS).
The suspect was later traced and arrested for rape.
The case was under investigation by Sergeant Mmakwena Ngwepe.
A bail was opposed until the accused was found guilty and sentenced to twenty years (20) imprisonment for rape.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has expressed her appreciation to the investigating officer and his team for securing the jail term sentence and ensuring that the victim and her family receives justice.
