TWO SUSPECTS NABBED FOR CASES OF ATTEMPTED MURDER, ASSAULT GBH, AND MALICIOUS DAMAGE TO PROPERTY, AFTER VIOLENCE AT A LOCAL TAVERN IN MOLETJI

POLOKWANE: Police in Seshego have arrested two suspects following the violence that erupted at a tavern in Moletji GaMatlou Village under Seshego policing area on Saturday night, 10 February 2024 at about 22h00 Two people were shot, and two others stabbed during the incident.

According to the preliminary information, two vehicles arrived at the tavern, and a female passenger went to relieve herself while some of the occupants entered went inside to buy some refreshments. The other passengers who remained inside the vehicles were surprised to hear the woman screaming, and they saw her being dragged by an unknown suspect at knife point.

A female patron tried to intervene, but the suspect stabbed her with a knife. At that time, all the occupants from both vehicles tried to assist the woman and but the suspect allegedly refused to let her go, and the other group came and joined the suspect in the fight. The suspect also damaged one of the vehicles.

In the process, one of the victim’s friends fought with the suspect in an attempt to free the woman , and the suspect stabbed him as well. That’s when he produced a firearm and fired shots at the suspect, but his friend was mistakenly shot as well.

Police and emergency medical services were called, and the four injured people were transported to the hospital.

The 24-year-old suspect, who held the woman hostage was detained under police guard and is facing charges of Assault GBH and malicious damage to property. Meanwhile, the other 34-year-old suspect is facing charges of attempted murder and the licensed firearm was confiscated as part of the investigation.

The two suspects will soon appear before Seshego Magistrate’s Court.

The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has condemned the reckless behavior of some of the community members at the liquor outlets and has urged them to refrain from carrying dangerous weapons to avoid this type of incident.

Police investigations continue.
