POLICE IN LIMPOPO LAUNCH A SEARCH FOR AWAITING TRIAL SUSPECT ESCAPED FROM LAWFUL CUSTODY

POLOKWANE: Members of police in Bela Bela, Waterberg District, have launched a manhunt for an awaiting trial escapee Jimmy Chauke.

According to information
Jimmy Chauke (31) escaped from Bela Bela Magistrate’s court on Wednesday, 07 February 2024 at about 08:05 . He was arrested in connection with two cases of burglary residence that took place around Bela Bela in March and December 2023.

The circumstances surrounding his daring escape is subject of investigation. The initial reports suggest that the suspect was brought to court from holding cell to consult with his legal representative.

A case of escape from lawful custody was opened for further investigation.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, has strongly condemned the incident and called for his rearrest.

Police are appealing to members of the public, including the families of the suspect, to assist with information that may lead to his re-arrest.
