LIMPOPO POLICE NAB MORE THAN 1500 SUSPECTS INCLUDING 23 LINKED WITH RAPE CASES DURING WEEKLY HIGH DENSITY OPERATIONS KUKULA (SHANELA) POLOKWANE: Members of SAPS in collaboration with other stakeholders, such as private security companies nabbed 1504 suspects, and 23 were linked with rape cases and also recovered 16 firearms, during the high density operations Kukula (Shanela) conducted from Monday, 29 January to Sunday 04 February 2024. Suspects were arrested from the five districts for charges including murder, attempted murder, robberies, rape, sexual offenses, assaults, burglaries, fraud, theft, malicious damage to property, public drinking drug related cases. The operations were activated through roadblocks, stop and search, blue light patrols, compliance inspections at liquor premises, and second-hand dealers, amongst other duties. While hard at work, the teams recovered nine (09) stolen or hijacked vehicles, 34 knives, 39 dangerous weapons, 12126 counterfeit cigarettes sticks, and 795580ml of liquor. They also confiscated 38521.878 grams of dagga, 83.25 grams of crystal meth, 149.004 grams of nyaope, and 3gram of heroin. Furthermore, 64 suspects were arrested for cases related to drugs and 35 for transgression of the Domestic Violence Act. Police attended about 559 reports of domestic violence, and 256 protection orders were served. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo SAPS Major General Jan Scheepers has praised the operational members for the job well done. The suspects have started to appear before various Magistrate’s courts across the province. The Police investigations are continuing.
