A 31-YEAR-OLD MALE SUSPECT NABBED FOR POSSESSION OF 55 BOXES OF ABALONES AT LEPHALALE

POLOKWANE: The Police in Lephalale under Waterberg District arrested a 31-year-old male suspect, who is also a foreign national, for possession of abalones without permit and also opperating a fish processing establishment without a permit, at the bushes next to Silver charm complex, on Saturday, 27 January 2024 at around 13h00.

The Police received a tip-off about suspicious vehicles parked at the bushes. Upon arrival, they found one male suspect with a white Rhino truck and a silver VW Polo. They searched the vehicles and found 55x boxes of abalones. He failed to produce documents to be in possession of the abalones. He was immediately arrested. The value of the abalones is still to be established.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of South African Police Service in Limpopo , Major General Jan Scheepers welcomed the arrest and applauded the Police for a swift reaction, which led to the apprehension of the suspect.

The suspect will appear before the Lephalale magistrate’s court soon.

The Police investigations are continuing.
