ALLEGED BUSINESS ROBBERY SUSPECT NABBED, FIREARM AND CELLPHONE RECOVERED
POLOKWANE: The SAPS at Matlerekeng in Sekhukhune District have arrested a 22-year-old suspect in connection robbery that took place at the Department of Agriculture premises and recovered the robbed firearm and cellphone.
The suspect was arrested on Tuesday morning, 02 January 2024 following a robbery incident that took place on 26 December 2023 at about 22:30, in which a security officer was attacked by an unknown suspect while on duty at the Department of Agriculture in Matlerekeng and robbed of his service pistol and a cellphone.
According to the information available at this stage, the victim was ambushed by an unknown suspect wearing a face mask, who assaulted him with pepper spray and baton.
Following extensive investigation, the suspect was arrested at his homestead and both the robbed firearm and cellphone were recovered.
The suspect, Zakhele Mahlatji, (22), has been charged with business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm and possession of suspected stolen property.
He appeared before Siyabuswa Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday 03 January 2024 and his case was postponed to January 09, for a formal bail application.
