SAPS LIMPOPO PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER REFUTE CLAIMS CIRCULATING ON SOCIAL MEDIA OF AN ALLEGED BRAWL BETWEEN A MEMBER OF SAPS AND SANDF IN BURGERSFORT POLICING PRECINCT

POLOKWANE:The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly refuted claims doing the rounds on social media platforms of an alleged brawl between a member of SAPS and the South African Nation Defence Force (SANDF) at Atok, outside Burgersfort in Sekhukhune District.

The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo would like to state categorically that the alleged brawl of members of the above-mentioned law enforcement agencies are misleading, baseless and devoid of truth.

According to the social media information , it is alleged that a member of the SANDF brutally assaulted a member of SAPS for soliciting bribe from illegal miners who were caught engaging in illegal mining activities, thus digging chrome at Atok in Sekhukhune District.

Internal investigation conducted and verified by the South African Police Service proved that there was no such alleged incident reported neither at the Police Stations around Sekhukhune District nor at any of the Police Station within the province of Limpopo.

“People should learn to exercise caution before spreading unverified and malicious information about any private or public entity or an individual person,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.

“As the Police, we would like to caution our communities to be aware of the possible existence of misleading social media reports that are hellbent on tarnishing the image of SAPS and SANDF,” concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.

The South African Police Service and SANDF are steadfast in creating safer communities and will not be deterred in their concerted efforts of dealing with any act of criminality during the festive season and beyond.

Anyone with information about any criminal activities should report it to SAPS Crime Stop at 08600 10111 alternatively to the nearest Police Station or can also share tip-off anonymously on MySAPSApp.
