LIMPOPO POLICE VOW TO CONTINUE CRACKDOWN ON ILLICIT DRUG TRADE

POLOKWANE: During a joint operation in the early hours of Friday, 15 December 2023, the South African Police Service’s (SAPS) Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit, made yet another breakthrough to eradicate illicit drug trade in the province.

The operation commenced during the early hours in Seshego and Polokwane policing precincts, following information gathered on the suspects dealing in illicit drugs.Two male suspects aged 26 and 27 were arrested at different locations in Zone 2 and Zone 3 respectively and heroine drugs seized. The 26-year-old suspect was found in possession of 6 small balls and 210 sachets of heroine drugs, with an estimated street value of R3000-00.The other suspect was found in possession of 10 small balls of heroine drugs worth R5000-00.

The team pounced on another suspect at Flora Park in Polokwane. The 34-year-old foreign National suspect was found in possession of rock drugs worth R100 000-00.

The Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe congratulated the team on their success, hard work and commitment. The Provincial Commissioner added that the breakthrough is part of the broader plan to halt drug dealers in their tracks and bring them to book.

” The cooperation between different disciplines in the SAPS and community proved to be key in the success of these operations and plays a crucial part in effective policing in our province,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.

The arrested suspects will appear before Seshego and Polokwane Magistrate’s Court respectively, on charges of possession and dealing in illicit drugs.
