HITCHHIKER ROBBED AND LEFT STRANDED IN MANKWENG,POLICE MANHUNT UNDERWAY

POLOKWANE Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has sent a strong warning to commuters who hitchhike unknown motor vehicles.

The stern warning follows an armed robbery on Wednesday evening, 29 November 2023 on the R71 road in Tzaneen.

Preliminary reports indicate that a 60-year-old man was hitchhiking to Magoebaskloof
when a silver Polo with three male occupants offered him a lift.

When they arrived at his destination, the vehicle passed the place at a high speed and the suspects demanded money. The victim did not have hard cash on him but only in his bank account. They then forced him to show them the balance and afterwards they said it was not enough and instructed him to make a call and ask for more money.

The money was sent and when the victim refused to give them the pin code, they assaulted him with a firearm and also stabbed him until he gave in to their demands.

They then drove towards Polokwane and on the way they blindfolded him so that they could withdraw the money without him noticing the location or seeking help.

After withdrawing the money, they dumped the victim in Mankweng and fled the scene. The victim was assisted by the community and police were summoned as well as the medical emergency services. He was transported to hospital for medical treatment.

” Members of the community can avoid becoming victims in the hands of these ruthless and heartless criminals by making use of safe modes of transportation such as public transport especially during this festive season,” Said Lieutenant General Hadebe.

A case of robbery with a firearm has been opened and anyone with information that can assist the police in arresting the suspects should contact Detective Sergeant Solly Legodi on 0765800792 or the Crime Stop number 08600 10111; the nearest Police Station or via the MySAPSapp.
