SAPS LIMPOPO CONTINUES TO STAMP THE AUTHORITY THROUGH “OPERATION SHANELA”(KUKULA)

POLOKWANE:The Police in Limpopo continues to stamp the authority through “Operation Shanela” with a huge impact in terms of arrest and seizure of the goods recovered from the unlawful possessions.

The five Districts are on a weekly basis continuing to sweep all these streets of all criminal activities by conducting operations at different angles with other law enforcement agencies, collaborated in the fight against Crime under the leadership of their respective District Commissioners , joined by the Deputy Provincial Commissioners .

The successes achieved over the past weekend during Operation Shanela in Limpopo Province collectively are a total number of 1639 suspects arrested for various crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder, rape, robbery with aggravating circumstances, sexual assault, assault with intention to inflict grievous bodily harm, common assault, common robbery, robbery with weapons other than a firearm, sexual offences, burglary at business and residential, stock theft, arson, theft of motor vehicle, malicious damage to property, shoplifting, fraud, theft, drug related crimes, driving under the influence of alcohol, unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition, possession of suspected stolen goods, transgression of Domestic Violence Act, public drinking, illegal dealing in liquor, and contravention of immigration act.

The following items were seized during the operations:

  • Counterfeit cigarettes;68 165
  • Dangerous weapons; 35
  • Dagga ; 1704.61 grams
  • 4.46 grams

And the items confiscated are as follows:

  • Firearms 05
  • Ammunition 65
  • Liquor 542 888, 75 ml
  • Knives 26
  • Motor vehicles stolen/ robbed 07

With the following actions executed:

  • Crime Awareness Campaigns 539
  • Compliance inspections at liquor outlets 3099
  • Compliance inspections at Second Hand Goods dealers 331
  • Crime Prevention operations 12027
  • Drug related operations 31
  • Roadblocks 164
  • Stop and search 5238
  • Protection orders served 373
  • Shebeens closed 27

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe hailed the collaborative efforts by all Teams involved resulting in these successes

The suspects arrested have already started appearing in different Magistrate’s Courts facing various charges.
