STEPFATHER CONVICTED FOR RAPE AND SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPING A TEENAGE GIRL
POLOKWANE: The Division of High Court in Thohoyadou has , on Tuesday 19 September 2023, convicted and sentenced a 56-year-old male accused to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of raping his stepdaughter aged 14 years old at , Saselamani Policing area.
The court heard that on Monday, 25 February 2019 the accused (who cannot be named to protect the identity of victim) went to his wife’s residence and found the victim, who is his stepdaughter, was alone. He promised her a job and left. A few hours later, he came back to fetch the victim towards the bushes, where he then raped her.
The Police’ opened a case of rape and transferred it to the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offense Unit for further investigation, assigned to Detective Sergeant Precious Nkuna to investigate.
The accused was arrested the following day on Tuesday 26 February 2019.The Investigating Officer Sergeant Nkuna successfully opposed bail against the accused, remanded in custody until he was convicted for rape and sentenced to life imprisonment on 19 September 2023.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the sentencing and further applauded the investigating officer and her team for their intense investigations and commitment for arresting the rapist and securing the conviction.
The accused was declared unfit to possess a firearm, and his particulars to be included in the National Register for Sexual Offenses.
