VHEMBE DISTRICT ILLEGAL MINING OPERATION LED TO THE ARREST OF FIVE SUSPECTS, BAKKIES AND TRUCK CONFISCATED

POLOKWANE: Five illegal miners were arrested at Mutshipisi village at Malamulele Policing area, on Friday, 01 September 2023 during a disruptive operation conducted between 10:00 and 19:00.

Vhembe District members focusing on illegal mining activities, received information about the illegal miners at the said village. Leads were followed and five suspects aged between 21 and 39 were arrested.

During the arrest Police confiscated two bakkies and one truck fully loaded with precious stones, gas cylinders and other resources.

Police opened a case of Contravention of Metal Act.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the teams for arresting these suspects and protecting the minerals of this Province.

The suspects will appear before Malamulele Magistrate’s Court on 04 Monday 04 September 2023.

The Police investigations are still ongoing.
