A 20-YEAR-OLD LEARNER ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH THE MURDER OF A FELLOW LEARNER AT SANDSLOOT, MAHWELERENG
POLOKWANE : A 20-year-old male learner was arrested today, Tuesday 22 August 2023 in connection with the murder of fellow learner Wallen Tatesi Nthuse Ngoepe(20) in Sandloot village, Mahwelereng.
The arrest of the suspect follows an in-depth investigation by the South South African Police Service in Mahwelereng into an inquest docket surrounding the untimely death of the 20-year-old learner at his homestead on August 20.
The tragic incident follows a chain of events that unfolded on the 18th August at a local school. Preliminary investigations by the Police’ indicated that a fight broke out between two learners, resulting in one of them sustaining injuries. The victim was hospitalized and was released only to experience complications upon returning home.Sadly he succumbed to the injuries. Police were notified about the incident by the family after the deceased was taken to the mortuary.
At the time an inquest docket was opened and Police’ commenced with investigations while also awaiting the results of the postmortem
Consequently, the case was changed to murder leading to the subsequent arrest of the suspect.
The circumstances surrounding the incident is still subject to Police investigations.
The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has condemned the violent behavior of some learners especially on school premises and applauded the investigation team for the excellent work of uncovering the truth and arresting the perpetrator.
The suspect will appear on a charge of murder in the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Wednesday 23 August.
