MBOMBELA TRAFFIC POLICE OFFICER DENIED BAIL

The state successfully opposed bail in a case involving a Mbombela female Traffic Officer, Khanyisile Viola Nyalunga (29). She is charged with conspiracy to commit robbery with aggravating circumstances, robbery with aggravating circumstances, attempted murder, two counts of possession of stolen property, possession of a firearm, and possession of ammunition. The White River Magistrates Court has today found that the interest of justice does not permit her release on bail. It further stated that if the accused is released on bail, she might interfere with the state witnesses and that the accused and her unknown co-perpetrator who are still at large might commit similar offences.

This relates to the attempted cash-in-transit heist, which occurred last week Thursday, between Hazyview and White River, where a Fidelity cash van was attacked, and a shootout ensued between the unknown suspects and the securities. It is alleged that the accused arranged a safe house, where the suspects kept the firearms in preparation for the heist wearing a police uniform. The police investigations led to the arrest of the accused who was allegedly found in possession of two stolen vehicles parked in her yard.

The matter was postponed to 27 September 2023 for further investigation.
