A Swaziland national was found in possession of heroin worth over R75 million and has made his second appearance before Carolina District Court. The accused, Bonginkosi Cyril Gamedze (48), is charged with contravention of provisions of Section 5(a) of the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act 140 of 1992.
Gamedze was arrested last week in Badplaas, after the police received a tip-off information about a truck traveling from Mozambique to Badplaas, transporting drugs. They acted on the information, stopped, and searched the truck that the accused was traveling with, found drugs worth millions, and the suspect was apprehended. The matter was transferred to Hawks for further investigation.
During his first appearance, the accused was remanded in custody, pending the outcome of his bail application. Yesterday, he abandoned his bail, and the matter was postponed to 21 September 2023, for further investigation before the same court.
