THE REGIONAL COURT IN MAHWELERENG CONVICT AND IMPOSE LIFE TERM IMPRISONMENT TO THE RAPIST
POLOKWANE :The Regional Court in Mahwelereng have on Thursday 13 July 2023 handed over a hefty sentence of life term imprisonment to a 29-year-old male Lesiba Collen Tema and convicted him for rape of a 13-year-old girl.
The Court heard that it was on Saturday 14 December 2019 at about 20:10 in the evening when the accused forcefully grabbed the victim with a hand while she was on the street next a tuck shop waiting for her friend at Mosesetsana village outside Mokopane.
It is reported that Collen threatened to stab the victim with a knife and subsequently pushed her into the nearby bushes whereby he repeatedly raped her without being aware that the victim had recognized him.
The case of rape was opened at Mahwelereng Police Station and transferred to Mokopane Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit and was assigned to Detective Sergeant Khomotjo Rammutla for investigations.
Sergeant Rammutla has successfully traced and arrested Collen in few days after the incident occurred on Tuesday 31 December 2019 at his homestead.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the Court outcome pointing out that if you do crime you will do time in prison.
The Court has ordered that Collen’s particulars to be endorsed in the Register for Sexual Offenders.
