PROVINCIAL ORGANIZED CRIME UNIT APPREHENDED A 34 YEAR-OLD MALE FOR ALLEGED TRANSPORTATION AND POSSESSION OF PRECIOUS METALS

POLOKWANE: The members of the Provincial Organized Crime Unit have apprehended a 31 year-old male suspect for possession and transportation of precious metal (Chrome) on Sunday 25 June 2023 at about 19:30 in Burgersfort policing area.

Police were busy conducting investigative duties when they spotted a white Tipper truck with Mpumalanga registration number driving along Makgemeng public road outside Burgersfort heading to Steelport.

The truck was immediately stopped and police requested to search it and permission was granted.

During the search, the truck was found fully loaded with Chrome mineral. The truck driver was requested to produce authentic documents for transportation and being in possession of the precious metal but failed to produce them and a 34 year-old male was immediately placed under arrest on the spot.

A white Tipper truck and precious metals whose value are still to be determined were confiscated during his arrest.

The Provincial Commissioner of South African Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe appreciated the collaborative efforts by members for ridding the Province of illegal Mining activities.

The suspect will appear before Praktiseer Magistrate Court tomorrow on Tuesday 27 June 2023.

Police investigations are continuing.
