ACCUSED IN COURT FOR THREE COUNTS OF TERS FRAUD

GAUTENG – An alleged TERS fraudster, Katlego Molepo (29) appeared in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday, 21 June 2023 for three counts of fraud. He was released on bail where he was instructed to return to court on 17 July 2023.

In May 2020, Molepo reportedly submitted the Covid-19 Temporary Employer-Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) claim to UIF on behalf of three companies without the knowledge of the employers and employees. An amount of more than R1.5 million was paid into his personal account.

The discrepancies were discovered by the UIF investigator who then lodged a complaint with the Pretoria Central police. The docket was assigned to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation in East Rand. The warrant for Molepo’s arrest was executed today where he was charged with fraud and taken to court.

The accused was released on R10 000 bail.
