Premier Mathabatha Honoured to host Netball World Cup Trophy Tour in Limpopo

Limpopo Premier Mr. Chupu Stanley Mathabatha welcomed the Netball World Cup Tour to the province, stating that it is an honour to host such a prestigious event. He extended his warmest congratulations to the participants, organisers, and everyone involved in making the Tour a reality.

Limpopo has successfully hosted the Netball World Cup Trophy Tour, which saw the trophy showcased in Mopani, Vhembe, and Capricorn Districts, as part of its global Tour. The Limpopo Tour will end in Sekhukhune and Waterberg Districts on Monday, 12 June and Tuesday, 13 June 2023, respectively. In Polokwane the event was held on 11 June 2023, at Jack Botes Park, attracting several stakeholders from across the province and beyond.

Premier Mathabatha emphasised the province’s commitment to promoting netball development and supporting young people’s involvement in sports.

“We are committed to promoting the development of netball in our province. Our municipalities have established various leagues that have given rise to several competitions that support the development of netball. We are pleased to note that our municipalities have taken advantage of the Municipal Infrastructure Grant to build netball courts across the districts, further promoting netball infrastructure in the communities,” said Premier Mathabatha.

The province’s pride in netball is evident in the success of Ms Cecilia Molokwane, the President of Netball South Africa, who is a native of the province.

According to Molokwane, the opportunity to host the Netball World Cup Tour in her hometown is a dream come true, fulfilling a long-time ambition of hers as the Netball South Africa President. Molokwane’s success demonstrates that sports can motivate and inspire young people to pursue their passion and reach the international stage.

The Limpopo Provincial Government notes that success comes with hard work and determination, and the Netball World Cup Trophy Tour is an inspiring reminder of the rewards of commitment.

The Provincial Government applauds Netball South Africa, the International Netball Federation, and all other stakeholders for successfully organising the Netball World Cup Trophy Tour. It is a proud moment for Limpopo Province and its people to have been part of history and we believe that this is yet another milestone towards Limpopo Province’s sports development initiatives, Premier Mathabatha concluded.
