EFF STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF COUNCILLOR IN THE EPHRAIM MOGALE
LOCAL MUNICIPALITY, JONAS MPOPI MPE.
The Economic Freedom Fighters ( EFF) in Limpopo notes with dismay and heavy
heart the fatal murder of Jonas Mpopi Mpe aged 49 from ward 02 Ga Botha
Moutse West Ephraim Mogale and condemns this barbaric incident in the
strongest terms.
Fighter Mpe was sworn in as the Proportional Representative Councillor in the
Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality in the Sekhukhune District after attaining the
second position during the 2021 local government elections.
He contested in ward 02 in Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality and managed to
attain 1 537 votes which equals to 46.95% performance for the EFF.
He was very much active in the community, he was the real ground force and
used to transport pensioners to their pay points especially during grants. Today
he was supposed to have transported learners without IDS to Home Affairs in
Marble Hall.
He was more involved in his community and had good working relationship with
the local tribal authorities.
On Thursday evening just after load shedding at around 21h00, he was fatally
shot by an unknown man at his house.
He was staying alone in the house and because of the injuries he sustained, he
excessively bleeded until he succumbed to injuries he sustained from gun shots.
His lifeless body was spotted lying by the fence by school children who
immediately alerted the neighbours and the Maklerekeng SAPS.
His missing car was found abandoned at Matimpule Troya next to Marapyane
after intensive investigations.
Fighter Mpe was one of the few councillors who had adhered to the call to
secure buses for the 10th anniversary celebration.
Fighters from Ephraim Mogale were left devastated because not so long they
buried Fighter Tlaka, and six months down the line it is Fighter Mpe.
As the EFF we would like to send our heartfelt condolences to the Mpe family,
relatives, friends and the Ground forces of our movement.
We would also like to thank the dedication shown by the SAPS Limpopo and we
hope and trust that soon the murderers will be apprehended and brought to
book.
