TWO MEN SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR MOB ATTACK.

REPORTER: TSHEPO C MOLOTO: The Limpopo Polokwane High Court has convicted and sentenced Hlalefang Serumula (27) and Sefako Isaiah Modipa (30), to 18 years direct imprisonment respectively for the murder of Alpheus Kgotlha Majadibodu, at Ga Seleka Wyk2. The accused pleaded not guilty and elected to remain silent. During the trial, the state witnesses testified that the accused persons followed the deceased to the house of Letta. This is where the accused and other group members damaged the doors and windows of the house, wherein the deceased and his companion had sought refuge. The deceased and his friends decided to flee and that is when the deceased was caught.

The accused assaulted him with different weapons and died on the scene. Dr. Stefanie Storm conducted a post-mortem examination and recorded the cause of death as multiple blunt and sharp force injuries to the head, torso, and limbs.

In aggravation of the sentence, the state prosecutor Advocate Nkhetheni Munyai submitted that the accused has been convicted of a very serious offence, one of which the legislature has imposed a minimum sentence of life imprisonment. He further said that the deceased died a brutal death, and he was attacked by a group of people in a vigilante manner.

The NPA welcomes the sentence and hopes that it will send a message that criminality emanating from vigilantism will not be tolerated. The DPP Advocate Ivy Thenga applauds the good work done by Adv. Nkhetheni Munyai, Sergeant Kwinika William, and Kekana Given Sout of Witpoort Police Station.
