HAWKS SEIZE MORE EQUIPMENT DURING CONTINUOUS DISRUPTIVE ILLEGAL MINING OPERATIONS.

REPORTER: TSHEPO C MOLOTO: Limpopo- More mining equipment was seized during the multidisciplinary disruptive operation led by Polokwane based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation assisted by the Hawks’ Head Office, Department of Mineral Resource and Energy, Department of Home Affairs, Limpopo Illegal Mining Task Team, Public Order Policing, Provincial Organised Crime, and State Security Agency at Ga-Manyaka outside Burgersfort on Sunday, 21 May 2023.
During the operation the team managed to seize the following mining equipment: 23 wheelbarrows, 5 jack hammers, a chain, 3 generators, 3 pickaxes, 5 ammers, a spade, a shovel and a crowbar valued at more than R111 000.

No arrest was made, however, multidisciplinary disruptive operations are still continuing to address illegal mining activities in the affected areas within the Province.

The Provincial Head of the Hawks in Limpopo Province, Major General Gopz Govender has noted with great appreciation the efforts of the multidisciplinary team. “Our continuous disruptive operations will continue to paralyze illegal mining syndicates in the Province by confiscating items that are instrumental in these illegal activities”, said Major General Govender.
