COMPANY DIRECTOR TO APPEAR IN COURT FOR TAX FRAUD

GAUTENG – A 50-year-old suspect was served with a court summons by the Germiston based Hawks Serious Commercial Crimes Investigation team on Monday,15 May 2023.   

It is alleged that the suspect submitted false documents at the South African Revenue Services (SARS) during the 2016 tax period, furthermore he also claimed to be a director of a reputable printing company in Johannesburg. The vigilance of SARS officials detected some inconsistencies that would have caused a loss of R8.6 million had it not been uncovered. 

A case docket was opened and handed over to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team in Germiston for further handling. Preliminary exploration by the Hawks revealed that the suspect was never a director of the company.

He is expected to appear in the Palmridge Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 20 June 2023 on charges of fraud and contravention of the Tax Administration Act 28 of 2011.
