EFF STATEMENT ON NON-PAYMENT OF MALARIA INDOOR RESIDUAL
SPRAYING TEAM BY THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH IN LIMPOPO.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Limpopo notes with utmost concern
the non-payment of full salaries to the Malaria Indoor Residual Spraying
workers by the infamous Limpopo Department of Health.
We note with pain and disappointment that despite today marking Workers
Day, we still have a government department in a democratic dispensation that
robs workers of their salaries.
The department had without any explanation cut salaries of these workers
who were hired on a temporary basis to work in Vhembe and Mopani Districts
for six months.
This department is known for mistreating workers and high-level corruption in
the recent years, and the only answer given to these workers was that the
department is cash-strapped and cannot afford to pay them full salaries.
Since these contract workers started working, they carried out their duties for
five months and were paid full salaries but only in the last month of their exit,
they were only paid half of their normal salaries which is in breach of the
contracts signed with the employer.
The EFF condemns the clear exploitation of workers and un-contractual salary
cuts with the contempt it deserves and further calls on the department to
immediately pay the workers in full.
