SAPS OFFICIALLY HANDS OVER A NEWLY BUILT HOUSE TO A DESTITUTE FAMILY IN LIMPOPO

POLOKWANE The Deputy Minister of police Mr Cassel Mathale and the top management visited Limpopo province on , Saturday 29 April 2023 to officially hand over a house to the Takalo family at GaMolepo village in Mankweng whose lives were drastically changed after the 36 year old woman was brutally shot by her 45 year old partner at their home and the perpetrator thereafter did the unthinkable and deprived the victim access to medical attention for days.

The mother of four, who miraculously survived the ordeal and lived to tell the tale, was left paralysed and had to pick up the pieces while unable to take care of her children, the eldest being 14 years of age. The child, apparently begged her father to take her mother to hospital after she discovered that she was injured .The family, was already struggling prior to the unfortunate incident and the SAPS in addition to the tragic incident, was touched by the depilated state of the house (shack) in which the family stayed.

Meanwhile, the police worked tirelessly on the case to ensure the perpetrator is tracked down and arrested, the SAPS Management in Limpopo started facilitating the house project in collaboration with various stakeholders including the Polokwane Local Municipality, Old Mutual and local business community.The project which is in line with the annual SAPS National Day and Excellence awards celebrations as well as the organisation’s corporate social responsibility.

The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe and her team, within three months were able to reach the mark and the three bedroom house was completed and fully furnished. On the other hand, the investigating officer handling the case, is working around the clock to ensure the perpetrator, who is currently out on bail, facing a charge of attempted murder is put behind bars for a long time and justice prevails for the victim and everyone affected. The suspect will appear in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on 03 May 2023

The deputy minister was accompanied by National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola, Deputy National Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili, Acting Deputy National Commissioner: Support Services, Lieutenant General L Ntshiea, Divisional Commissioners, Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, SAPS management from National and Provincial Office.

The event was also supported by the Executive Mayor of Polokwane Municipality Cllr J Mpe, Mojapelo Traditional Council, stakeholders and organisations, stakeholders as well as the community.

The National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola gave the purpose of the day ; that is to support a family affected by a gruesome crime of GBV; that the recipient will be presented with a three-bedroom house.

Stakeholders including the main sponsor Old Mutual and Community Policing Forum gave messages of support. With one voice they promised to continue in their endeavours of uplifting families in similar situations and called on other stakeholders to participate in various initiatives that were aimed to support survivors of GBV and related crimes.

The Deputy Minister of Police Mr Cassel Mathale in his keynote address, applauded the joint efforts of the SAPS and various stakeholders in making a positive impact in the lives of a family that has gone through the worst situation and giving them hope in the form of a safe roof under their heads. The Deputy Minister condemned the escalating incidents of GBV and appealed to theEncommunity to stand together to end these horrendous crimes and senseless attacks that are killing our nation. In conclusion, he encouraged other stakeholders especially the business community to support this type of projects.

The Executive Mayor of Polokwane Municipality, Cllr J Mpe rendered the vote of thanks item where he called for justice to be served and that police should work tirelessly to ensure that the perpetrator of this gruesome crime faces the full might of the law.

In concluding the program, the entourage planted hope in the form of trees, for the victim and the entire family to draw inspiration, never give up and keep the faith.
