ACCUSED TWO IN THE MEYIWA MATTER DENIED BAIL

The Pretoria High Court has denied bail for Accused #2 in the Senzo Meyiwa matter, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi (33). Ntanzi and his four co-accused, are facing charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstance, possession of an unlawful firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

On 13 October 2022, Ntanzi brought his application to be released on bail. In his affidavit he told the court that he was not a flight risk, and that he will not endanger the safety of the public nor will he interfere with the administration of justice or threaten witnesses should he be released on bail. However, Advocate George Baloyi for the state, opposed his bail application and handed in to the record the affidavit of the investigating officer in which he states that Ntanzi lied about his alibi, his bank account being frozen and being assaulted by the police. Moreover, he has no verifiable address within Gauteng.

The Judge agreed with the state that the accused failed to show the court that exceptional circumstances exist that warrant his release on bail. Therefore, bail was denied.

The trial will resume on 02 May 2023.
