THE MEC FOR EDUCATION MS MBALI FRAZER IS MOVING IN TOP GEAR IN
ADDRESSING SCHOOL ISSUES
The KZN MEC for Education, Ms Mbali Frazer has of recent had sleepless nights in
tackling head-on a myriad of burning educational issues reported by the community that
have either reached her ears directly or have landed on her desk for direct intervention.
As a qualified education strategists, MEC Frazer has not only jumped into the fire putting
off the flames of disagreements, but has directly intervened, by school visits, thus
avoiding a disaster by protest action to the start of the Matric Examinations. Ever since
her Appointment as the MEC for Education, Ms Mbali Frazer has brought law and order
and rapid solutions to the challenges facing education, either by natural disasters, Acts
of God, Crime or a lack of resources and the human element of weakness.
Due to the inadequacies of resources, a dwindling budget and the ever increasing cost of
living, the complex typographical terrain of urban, rural and semi rural schools have
compounded the complexities, MEC Frazer has therefore, wisely established two Task
Forces to support her oversight function, namely the MEC Rapid Response Team [MRRT]
and Office of the MEC Transversal Team [OMECTT], which are responsible to swiftly
resolve challenges.
The MEC for Education Ms Mbali Frazer is moving with an increasing speed in addressing
school issues reported directly to her by the community from all corners of our beloved
KwaZulu-Natal Province.

As the Chairperson of the OMECTT and the MRRT, her academic interventions has
avoided a myriad of stalemates escalated to unbearable instabilities in schools.
Due to the high volume and vastness landscape of the Province, the MEC sharpened her
double sword approach by establishing these two teams, namely, the MRRT and the
OMECTT, whose immediate action and efforts are bearing fruits of success.
They are both rapid and radical in nature to ensure the smooth administration of quality
public education for all. The sleepless MEC who is an embodiment caliber of public
servant leadership tenets has made pragmatic and practical interventions in the following
schools via the MRRT at Mlokothwa High School in Zululand District, Esizibeni Secondary
School in Umlazi District, Nilgril Secondary School and today the engagement is
underway at Dannhauser Secondary School in the Amajuba District.
The second team OMECTT has recently visited the following schools unannounced
Xolani Secondary School at Osizweni in Amajuba District, Peacetown Primary School at
Ladysmith in Uthukela District, Mpumelelo Secondary School at Loskop in Uthukela
District, and Mashobane Secondary School in Ladysmith in Uthukela District just
yesterday.
These teams are engulfing the entire province in an aid adding to the exceptional if not
excellent work performed by school and office based educators with the help of vibrant
Unions, SGBs, Community Leadership (Amakhosi, Izinduna and Councilors to mention a
few).
“Education is a societal matter which must be the priority in the social contract the people
have with their Government and it is the only hope in their hands to conquer the triple
challenges of unemployment, poverty and inequality. Let us keep our schools safe”,”
added MEC Frazer.
