JOHANNESBURG, 2 MARCH 2023. The Motsepe Foundation will host their annual International Women’s Day Summit with high-level decision-makers on Friday, 3 March to build momentum for gender equality.

Under the theme From Rhetoric to Reality: Time for Actions the 7th annual summit hosted by the Motsepe Foundation’s Centre for Gender Equality, Wellness and Leadership (GEWAL) will consider progress made towards gender equality within organisations, through access to public services and in society generally.

With a focus on examining and highlighting impactful interventions, speakers include Saadia Zahidi, the Managing Director of the World Economic Forum; Zozibini Tunzi, Miss Universe 2019; Prof Letlhokwa Mpedi, the Vice-Chancellor & Principal of University of Johannesburg; philanthropist and businesswoman, Basetsana Kumalo; Thabile Ngwato, Co-Founder of Newzroom Afrika.

The 2023 GEWAL summit will help generate a concrete set of actions to achieve gender equality through transformative leadership, the digital economy and strategic allocations of resources.

“The summit emphasises the importance of gender equality as both a business and moral imperative,” says Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, Co-Founder and CEO of the Motsepe Foundation.

“Uplifting women across all spheres of society can accelerate development objectives across all Sustainable Development Goals, whilst also earning greater rewards for organisations who show willingness to implement this approach. Ensuring diversity amongst decision-makers is crucial to building this sustainable economy.”

The Motsepe Foundation commemoration of International Women’s Day will also include hosting the Ring the Bell for Gender Equality at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) on Wednesday, 8 March.
