A 26-YEAR-OLD MAN SLAPPED WITH A JAIL TERM FOR ATTEMPTING TO RAPE HIS NEIGHBOUR A 39-YEAR-OLD WOMAN IN MODIMOLLE
POLOKWANE : The 26 year old man who attempted to rape a 39 year old woman who is also his neighbour was condemned to prison after being found quilty of attempted rape . He was sentenced to an effective six years imprisonment when he appeared before Modimolle Regional Court this week.
The Court heard how the accused attempted to rape a 39-year-old woman, who is also his neighbour on Friday 12 November 2021 while she was walking alone at night on the street in Modimolle Extension 9 just next R101 Provincial road.
It is reported that the victim was rescued by a motorist who was driving along R101 road when he noticed the struggle between the accused and the victim who was also shouting for help.
The accused who cannot be named to protect the victim because they are neighbors was declared by the Court unfit to possess a firearm and his particulars to be included in the Register for Sexual Offenders.
The case of attempted rape was meticulously investigated by Sergeant Motlatjo Tukakgomo of Modimolle Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe have welcomed the conviction and subsequent sentencing and applauded the member for a good work done.
