POLICE SERGEANT APPEARS IN THE DE AAR DISTRICT COURT ON DRUNKEN DRIVING CHARGES

A South African Police Service Sergeant, Claudius Minnaar (40), has appeared in the De Aar District Court on charges of drunk driving. which is prescribed in Section 65(1) of the Road Traffic Act.

Section 65 of the National Road Traffic Act sets outs the legal limits and prohibitions, for driving whilst under the influence, and stipulates that no one shall drive or even occupy the driver’s seat of a motor vehicle with the engine running on a public road if their blood alcohol content is over the legal limit.

On 18 February 2023, the officer was found at the scene of an accident and behind the wheel of the marked double-cab bakkie of the South African Police Service.

The case was reported, and the police officer was charged with infringing the prescribed road traffic laws as prescribed in the Road Traffic Act. The matter has been remanded to 28 March 2023, for an attorney as well as for further investigations.
