A CASE OF A MAN ACCUSED OF RAPE AND MURDER HAS BEEN MOVED TO HIGH COURT FOR TRIAL
The Galeshewe District Court has transferred the case of Itumeleng Machabe(25), aka Benzo from Galeshewe, to the High Court of South Africa, Northern Cape Division, sitting in Kimberley for trial. The accused is facing two charges of rape as well as murder. The defendant is accused of killing raping and killing a child, Relebogile Segami.
It is alleged that on 30 March 2022, the victim was reported missing, after all, was done to search for her and regrettably, her body was discovered on 31 March 2022, near the Northern Cape Legislature, in Kimberley. The Police, through multi-disciplined investigations promptly managed to arrest the suspect, and he made his first court appearance on 04 April 2022.
The accused who was already facing a charge of rape of a 15-year-old, and out of bail was informed by the prosecution that the two matters will be joined together. The prosecution had successfully opposed bail application against the accused in this schedule 6 matter, given the seriousness of the charges against him.
The trial has been set down for hearing, from 17 April until 05 May 2023, in the High Court in Kimberley.
