PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER WELCOMES THE ARREST OF POLICE SERGEANT AND WARRANT OFFICER FOR ALLEGEDLY SELLING A CASE DOCKET

POLOKWANE: The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest of two Police members attached to Sekgosese police station in Mopani District. The two, a Wartant Officer and a Sergeant were arrested today on Tuesday 07 February 2023 at their workplace.

Members of the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit launched an investigation after receiving a complaint from the victim alleging that he received a call from one of the police members demanding a gratification amounting to R15 000.00 to cancel a case docket. After paying R10 000.00, the members reportedly insisted on getting the balance.

The suspects were arrested soon after receiving the balance.

“The majority members of the South Aftican Police Service are passionate about the work they do and are always abiding by the laws of the country and the SAPS Code of Conduct. The arrested police members must be treated like any suspects as the Police Service does not have space for such members masquerading as police officers,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.

The suspects are expected to appear in Morebeng magistrate court tomorrow, Wednesday 08 February 2023.
