SAPU CALLS FOR NO BAIL FOR THE MAN WHO ASSAULTED A
POLICEMAN
The South African Policing Union (SAPU) calls for no bail for a
man from Springs on the East Rand who allegedly was seen on
a video that went viral, assaulting a police officer following a
confrontation on Tuesday 20th December 2022. This act clearly
shows our society has no respect at all for authority and the
rule of law.
It is reported that police officers were on routine patrol in the
area when they came across five men who were misbehaving
when they were warned, one of the five men allegedly turned
on the male police officer assaulting him even when the
officer is seen avoiding the confrontation. We are living in an
abnormal society that kills and assaults police officers, and
our society has reached low levels of morals and decay which
has been clearly displayed when those who witnessed the
incident recorded a video and where laughing in the
background instead of calling their peer to order on his
barbaric act against officers of the Law. These act clearly has
an indictment on the society that is depending on the police
As the suspect has been arrested SAPU calls on that he
receives no bail at all, for an attack on the Police is an attack
against the State. A tough stance against unacceptable
behaviour like his would act as a deterrent against others who
might be lacking respect for the police and authority in
general. This man must be shown no mercy for what he has
done. SAPU calls on the Police to take a tough stance and
apply force that is reasonable under the circumstance against
anyone who is attacking them without fear no favour. We
want to challenge human rights activists to condemn such
barbaric behaviour from members of the public. We know if
our members had acted tough in defending themselves and
their image there would have been an outcry now people
calling it police brutality, and we call on our members not to
be fearful when they have to take tough action against
criminals like this man.
