FATHER ACCUSED OF RAPING DAUGHTER TO DENIED BAIL

The Galeshewe District Court has denied bail to a 47-year-old father who is facing three charges of rape. He is accused of having raped his 21-year-old daughter. It is alleged that the accused started raping his daughter when she was 09-year-old and the rape stopped at the age of 21 years in 2022, the daughter informed the matter the community organization, which then took the daughter to the Galeshewe Thuthuzela Care Centre and the reported to the police. The accused was arrested and charged with rape.

During his bail application, which was opposed by the prosecution the court heard how the victim had endured sexual abuse at the hands of her father for years, and how this abuse had affected her. The court was also informed that the accused had contacted the victim and tried to persuade her to drop the charges against him.

When making a ruling on the judgement of the accused bail application, the Galeshewe District Court Magistrate informed the accused that it was in the best interest of justice that he should be remanded in custody. That the accused had proven that the is a likelihood that he might interfere with the witnesses who are his children, as he had already proven that during his incarceration by contacting the victim. The magistrate informed the accused that he did not present any exceptional circumstances to be granted bail, hence the court to a decision not to grant him bail.

The accused is remanded in custody until his next court appearance on 28 November 2022, while investigations led by SAPS are continuing.
